Moving On and On

HIGH SPEED   Bullett Trains  were not needed,   and never will be needed  on Zanzibar Island.. 

A  SLOW BOAT to China ?   Maybe!  I am told Chinese Kindness and generosity is seen in heavy Investment in "High Speed Railways"  that will take  friends from Mombasa to Kampala swiftly  ! From DarEs Salaam they can go to Lake Tanganyika or Rhodesia or all the way to South Africa  as we saw on a Video posted on SJCSZAN Google by Karpal  in 2021..  ( I think)

I am responding to the way things are now  since my last Postings on SJCSZAN  2021.. and recent postings on KPZ THIS  WEEK.

      I think it has been a year ? since I accidently deleted  the second.. copy of everything I got  - from SJCSZ    and it took me off the site.. I had no intention of leaving..     That being said  I did not rush back to get back to dear Madhu - who had done  such a great work   - to start up SJCSZAN GOOGLE Group. 

I had many reasons  

                         -"seasons"  in New England mainly..   Covid   19 20  21.. challeneges  - and  family and friends locally  vocally  Yoking me to local Yokel realities...

I needed a brake  as well as a break .. to SLOW down My speeding "Vehicle" My Racing mind in my aging Brain Out of Control ? as often is  My Subaru  it is " LOVE  USA"  on my ICY driveway  - I never ove come the fear and thrill  as it stopped each time  inches from the nearest Tree Trunk with a car full of young lads  my son moved with as  "a herd"  who ride Roller Coasters with greatest delight  - Death and disaster are never really a Day away in New England  . Never "Tomorrow tomorrow Tomorrow "   .but always   here ..Today   

 Which is why I was thrilled to spend a whole day at Reckefeller Plaza NY CITY and see the place I was in/at.  

I  can acess daily  the TODAY SHOW.. Hoda and Jenna  - Two women sharing stories about their families babies  and yes parents.. Inagine if I asked Jenna 

       " So who were your parents and Grandparents"?    

 Oh  nothing really  just Presidents of the USA  ( The Former   now gone with the winds of Change  ...is "WASP America.." of the Bushes George HW  and G W 

We have moved  deeper into the Woods -  here and there and the Forests.. far away  Amazon and Congo  and In D e Nesia.

   One little boy who went to Catholic School in Jakarta also became President of the USA..   His Mom married a nsecond time to a Local Professor of GEOGRAPHY  ..They met as she did the first Husband in Hawaii."

           That explains everything.. I love the Hawaii an Wedding Song don't You?

Here my "whole" extended family have begged us to to find a better place to call "Home"  than this "shamba" as they would call it in Mombasa and Zanzibar.. Strangely though miles from any Ocean,  it does remind me of the Plot Dad and I picked out when we had to choose a place to live out those dreams ..Beautiful Dreamer ! that was my Dad. 

        I can see him now with that far away look..in his eyes  looking into a future we could not Imagine as we stood there togther on that Hill called "Mazazini " if I remember correctly.. Years later  He would be staring out to the Top of the Mountains  at The Peaks of Grouse MountainNorth Vancouver from Richmond BC  You can ski well into late spring in WHISTLER and you  mustdrive   Right Past  Karpal's Favorite Yatch Club  where we had a day to remember  with him. Ah !  Delicious Fresh Sea Food.. Nothing like  Beautiful Vancouver  Standing on a High Mountain and looking at the Sea...or sitting on a ferry going through the ilsands  looking at High Mountains .

 Zanzibar  Highest Point was 50 -60 Feet?  

But I love it here nad refuse to be Moved.. I  am as  stubborn as an Donkey  POONDA  Ass  beast of Burden whatever. I recall it wasHer Foal who  carried Greatness Incarnate as he rode into HIStory   Glory Glory Alleujah  ..  Palm Sunday.. Coming again soon.

            

 I  still remember playing marbles with you Benito and I did  get a couple to go home with. Now I gather my "marbles"  so to speak and have that "Full Deck of cards" needed for any challenge.   I was in the 1950's early 60's  to Play  Dummy Bridge  with My Dad  Mr Adolfo Senior and Mr Amelino Da Costa ( Father of Diddi Dr Damascino da Costa ) ..(Three old ? men) needing a Forth as "DUMMY"  Now I chuckle when hear about a No Trump Gam !  Is King better than Ace?  Queen and Jack and Joker remain lower  in the ranks.. Hearts Clubs Spades Diamonds      I must have been 15-18  They were in their 60's   WOW   I Hated Cards as much and Mom did but she never gave in.    I caved..   It was kind oif fun to hear OLD MEN talking about things I did not give two Hoots about..

But now   I wish I had really listened..!!    and I wish I had got into the Chess Club.. or BAD  Minton  ..Names and games  got to me.

 I settled for a lovely set on beautiful  bone china hand painted,  I picked out on Oxford St  London when walking past - Bosco asked if   I wanted to get some China  "I give you Five minutes.." he said. That is how long it took for him to "pick me"  (and No China Doll am I ..but why COMplain?   just EX plain.  I picked GRASSMERE  by MINTON   GoodMinton  .. nothing Bad here and now as all minds and hearts turn to those who have actually visited  Our very own  Island in the Sun recently 

Harry Belafonte made Jamaica and Kingston Town  a place of "delight" and got tourists to go see for themselves....So why Not Zanzibar? 

  

Benito and "the BAND"    of "brothers" not born of the same WOMB/ BIRTHER  but whose "SOUL"  whose " MUSIC FESTUS "  stay with The Rest'f us  ?? 

My Personal Connection  to that Mystical Mysterious Majestic Cinemascope  Technicolor "time"  in my memory  is amazing n  Utterly Amazing Grace !  Grace Kelly and Elvis are two of the many who stay with me  -  in spirit  -  from that time, I was a teen, in addition to members of my own Pinto Family  and SJCSZan..of course .

   Grace Kelly sent her only son Prince Albert here to AMHERST Masas to stud and get Educated.. (Uhuru Kenyatta too!)  .and My first of five sons  graduated from there too!  .. 

Elvis of course  never leaves the 50 States.  His Haunting melodies get through to the SOUL of those " little folks.." all Hurting dudes.. so poor they never were able to make it out of their street..  Let alone get into the soul of a girl far away in Zanzibar..!  I know girls in Bombay mad about his "soul stirring" music  too.  He sang Anfrican American Gospel SOUL music  as  well as  about Jewish Biblical SOUL  realities 

 

 Now   to wind this down .. ( Yes finally)  

  I want to say  I get 2 copies of KPZ  .. but I will not press delete just in case..  But I am enjoying   the fun

Goans love to sing in the evenings..   I was Nine years old March 22 1951  ..and soon we  all would return to Zanzibar to take up Residence in the Home that Adloph will soon go see again..

         The Canadian Border is just a few miles North and I once ( 1994/ 1995? )drove two nuns and a layman teacher from our St Mary  School to Visit the Shrine of St Joseph Oratory  Montreal .....and back for Dinner with Husband,    as Daughter was singing at a party he was having Our Lake Home in NH ...

I am great at driving  but now hesitant to do it alone,  and no one is willing or able ..right now..  But who knows     I have drive from Toronto Jan 3 in a Great Blizzard  ..after a wedding there Jan 2...

 10 hours    back to NH..

 we were all made aware - for decades  -through  G O A  UK,  British Archives Offices, BOOKS from BRAZ MENEZES   PETER NAZARETH   SELMA CARLVALHO     of what when and where  LIFE began for EAST AFRICAN GOANS  with The GOAN-ZANZIBAR  Experience of Zan GOAN  Dr ALBURQUE . He  created a replica of the palace of THE SULTAN of ZAN inGoa  TERESA Alburque his daughter in Law,  gave my Husband a signed Copy of her two books.when he visted her..in Bombay the 1990's..

 I gave away the copy of  Catholics Of Bombay  to my Daughter In law whose many relatives were listed there before some of them  moved to the USA  Canada and UK.   She was born in the USA and had  ( still has )  little or no interest in all o "...That Stuff..."   

but then Neither did I when I was first married, and My Mother in law was trying to fill me in...

             I had started my First teaching Job  paid by Kenya EDU Dept -  June 1964  Got engaged that month, my wedding  six months later and right after that  my First Baby - carried to school each day   -till  SHE  a Girl was born,. The ight away I prepared for  a second baby -  SON and HEIR  born11 months later  in the next  Christian Calendar Year  . Four "Spares"  followed but in the USA  only SHE counts when it come to HER  IT AGE   USA   In  Her IT Stance .."Inheritance" lies the Secret Code more difficult to crack than the Da VINCI CODE  The author Dan Brown wrote that Book and he too studied  (??) and graduated from Amherst College USA.  God wrote the Book of Life of Woman EVE ..and the Daughters  of Eve, DOE   of Zion  OZ   of Zanzibar..!

Meanwhile Local Haters of British Lord Jeffery Amherst want a name chnage   Tis the time to change all names  Why wait forApple Blossom time  to  "change you name to Mine?"     and   ..Some day In May   will you come to say Happy the bride the sun shine on today?

       

I can still see and hear the Muscians performing on that stage in the G  1 Zanzibar.. not sure when but as I was sitting on the fllorI would say  7-9? when we lived above the Post Office ?  

They also sang  

        If I give you a Packet of Pins and that's the way our love begins  

                     Will You marry,   Will  you Marry Will Your Marry Me?"    

Did any of those marry someone they samg to or about that day?  

 I also remember Boy Scouts doing a show in the Cathedral Grounds and singing Jambalaya Crawfish Paya  Me a Maya  or something   on the Bayou   which is in Lousiana and  " the Stars at Night are Big and Bright      Deep in the heart of Texas..!!

 Parents  were then known as "Mothers and Fathers"   Baba and mama yetu   were just awesome very blessed in their "story"... In Addition to being First Class Musicians playing for the Pleasure and Honor of the Sultan  Zanzibar and Pemba Islands..  maybe they took a day trip to Prison Island or the "LightHouse seen from Standard 12   ... SJCSZan  ...In additon Our Zanzibar Goan Parents were a model example of Goan Life AD  G L AD  

And  we are  glad to be part of their story..are we not ? we are not some   "Prestitigous" Elite exclusive group  but just one of many  that has as its focus  ZAN  ZI Bar...
